Should I keep the broken part of the key?
Keep the loose piece you already have and show it to the technician. Do not push it back into the keyway, add glue or insert another key over the fragment.
Does it matter whether the door is open or locked shut?
Yes. Tell us the door position and whether it can be secured. A closed, locked door may need opening work as well as extraction; confirm both tasks in the quote.
The key had been stiff before it snapped. Should I mention that?
Yes. Describe any earlier resistance, loose handle or difficulty closing the door. The break may be accompanied by a lock or alignment problem, so removing the fragment may not resolve the underlying fault.
Can I use my spare key immediately afterwards?
Ask the technician to assess the cylinder and check normal operation with you first. If the spare also catches or needs force, stop and have the remaining problem explained before relying on the lock.
